EPA Method 0011:
SAMPLING FOR SELECTED ALDEHYDE AND KETONE EMISSIONS FROM STATIONARY SOURCES

Summary:
This method is applicable to the determination of Destruction and Removal Efficiency (DRE).

Scope:
Gaseous and particulate pollutants are withdrawn isokinetically from an emission source and are collected in aqueous acidic 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine. Formaldehyde present in the emissions reacts with the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine to form the formaldehyde dinitrophenylhydrazone derivative. The dinitrophenylhydrazone derivative is extracted, solvent-exchanged, concentrated, and then analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
