EPA Method 204.2:Antimony by Graphite Furnace AA. Official Name: Antimony (Atomic Absorption, Furnace Technique)
Summary:A sample prepared according to EPA Method 200.0 is analyzed using a graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometer. Specifications for instrument operation and preparation of standards are provided in the method.
Scope:This method determines antimony by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. Sample pretreatment according to EPA Method 200.0 determines the applicability.
Citation:Methods for the Chemical Analysis of Water and Wastes (MCAWW) (EPA/600/4-79/020)
Interferences:Chloride: Interferences from chloride are prevented by adding an excess of 5 mg of ammonium nitrate to the furnace and ashing (using a ramp or steps) until the ashing temperature is reached. For additional interferences see EPA Method 200.0.
QC Requirements:QC requirements for drinking water procedures are provided in method 200.0.
Maximum Holding Time:6 months (MCAWW, Table 1).
Media:WATER
Subcategory:Inorganic
Concentration:20-300 ug/L (optimal range).
Sample Prep:200
Precision:Precision and accuracy values were calculated using interlaboratory data from EPA-managed Water Pollution (WP) performance evaluation studies.
Detection:The DL is to be considered the minimum working limit achievable with this method.
Revision Number:Issued 1978
