EPA Method 3040A:
DISSOLUTION PROCEDURE FOR OILS, GREASES, OR WAXES

Summary:
A representative sample is dissolved in an appropriate solvent (e.g., xylene, kerosene, or methyl isobutyl ketone). Organometallic standards are prepared using the same solvent, and the samples and standards are analyzed by FLAA or ICP-AES.

Scope:
This method is used for the preparation of samples containing oils, greases, or waxes for analysis by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FLAA) or inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES).
