EPA Method 3511:
ORGANIC COMPOUNDS IN WATER BY MICROEXTRACTION

Summary:
Samples are prepared by liquid:liquid extraction with organic solvent in field sampling containers. Careful manipulation of the sample, solvent, and spiking solutions during the procedure minimizes loss of volatile compounds while maximizing extraction of volatile, semivolatile, and nonvolatile compounds.

Scope:
Method 3511 is a procedure for extracting selected volatile and semivolatile organic compounds from water. The microscale approach minimizes sample size and solvent usage, thereby reducing the supply costs, health and safety issues, and waste generated.
