EPA Method 7010:GRAPHITE FURNACE ATOMIC ABSORPTION SPECTROPHOTOMETRY
Summary:Although methods have been reported for the analysis of solids by atomic absorption spectrophotometry, the technique generally is limited to metals in solution or solubilized through some form of sample processing.
Scope:Metals in solution may be readily determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry (GFAA). The method is simple, quick, and applicable to a large number of metals in environmental samples including, but not limited to, ground water, domestic and industrial wastes, extracts, soils, sludges, sediments, and similar wastes. With the exception of the analyses for dissolved constituents, all samples require digestion prior to analysis. Analysis for dissolved elements does not require digestion if the sample has been filtered and then acidified.
