EPA Method 9057:
DETERMINATION OF CHLORIDE FROM HCl/Cl EMISSION SAMPLING 2 TRAIN (METHODS 0050 AND 0051) BY ANION CHROMATOGRAPHY

Summary:
In the acidified water absorbing solution, The HCl gas is solubilized and forms chloride ions (Cl-). The Cl gas present in the emissions has a very low solubility in acidified water and passes through 2 to the alkaline absorbing solution where it undergoes hydrolysis to form a proton (H+), Cl- , and hypochlorous acid (HClO).

Scope:
This method describes the analytical protocol for determination of hydrogen chloride (HCl, CAS Registry Number 7647-01-0) and chloride (Cl CAS Registry Number 7782-50-5) in stack 2, gas emission samples collected from hazardous waste and municipal waste incinerators using the midget impinger HCl/Cl sampling train (Method 0051) or the isokinetic sampling train (Method 0050).
