EPA Method TO-4A:
Determination of Pesticides and Polychlorinated Biphenyls in Ambient Air Using High Volume Polyurethane Foam (PUF) Sampling Followed by Gas Chromatographic/Multi-Detector Detection (GC/MD)

Summary:
A high-volume (~8 cfm) sampler is used to collect common pesticides and PCBs on a sorbent cartridge containing PUF. Airborne particles may also be collected, but the sampling efficiency is not known (5). The sampler is operated for 24-hours, after which the sorbent is returned to the laboratory for analysis.

Scope:
This document describes a method for sampling and analysis of a variety of common pesticides and for polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in ambient air. The procedure is based on the adsorption of chemicals from ambient air on polyurethane foam (PUF) using a high volume sampler.
